A couple weeks ago, my co-worker emailed everyone about trying this new craze called the Bar Method. The only thing I have heard about The Bar Method is that it’s hard and long pants are required. I was intimidated, but excited at the same time. So, we went to the location located in the Loop, 180 N. Wacker Drive, 2nd floor
It was clear these people were in the business of customer satisfaction. Immediately after signing in I was given a tour of the facility. After the class started, the instructor made a point to say everyone’s name when giving direction. (“Kandyce, try widening your stance.”)
The class itself was pretty hard. The only way I can describe it is that it was Pilates on Steroids. I didn’t sweat a lot, but it involved a lot of isolation and pulse moves. It only took a couple of hours after the class for me to feel the burn.
Side note: Also, shout out to UIC CAMPUS RECREATION, I am really digging the Halloween decorations.
Congratulations to any UICers who ran in the Chicago Marathon. My training is not quite complete so I did not run.
So taking a break from fitness, here’s a little about school. In my GWS 501 class, we took a little “field trip” to the Sullivan Galleries located downtown on State Street. Susan Stryker was there giving a lecture and the place was packed! Susan Stryker is an academic and the first transgendered person to have an article published in an academic journal. UIC was definitely in the house as I saw a lot of familiar faces outside of my GWS class.
This week I decided that I should try Flirty Girl Fitness. I will give you my little review plus the pros and cons of this cooler weather. Pumpkin Spice Latte = PRO. Running with a huge jacket = CON.
